Ted Semaya
Ted G. Semaya is an experienced commercial litigator and trusted business advisor. He has tried business disputes before numerous courts and arbitral tribunals. He counsels and represents clients in domestic and international commercial disputes, from individuals to multinationals and from the famous to the most confidential.
A large part of Ted’s practice focuses on clients outside the U.S., often working with their local attorneys, whom Ted knows around the world, to represent them in legal disputes in the U.S. and advise them in the organization and conduct of their cross-border businesses. In this he employs his deep knowledge of the areas of law unique to international disputes and his long experience assembling teams of lawyers and other professionals across jurisdictions.
Practical and cost-conscious, having served as a mediator for both state commercial and federal court mediation panels, Ted often is able to resolve disputes quickly, before formal proceedings are brought or the expense of involving other professionals is incurred.
Ted also works with foreign businesspeople and businesses and their home country lawyers to establish and conduct businesses in the U.S. And he advises on and negotiates contracts, having taught international contracting abroad for the U.S. Commerce Department in its Commercial Law Development Program.
Among the subjects of dispute Ted has handled are among others, are: contract; fraud and other business wrongs; M&A and corporate; trusts and estates; accountant, attorney, and D&O liability; securities fraud and RICO; insurance; maritime; real estate; and enforcement in the U.S. of foreign court judgments and arbitral awards.
Ted was a partner at a major international law firm for many years and then practiced for many years at a boutique firm with a strong international practice, where he served on its Executive Committee which managed the firm. He maintains an affiliated counsel relationship with Offit Kurman, P.A., a national law firm with whom he has worked since 2018, and he maintains a large referral and assistance network of foreign and U.S. lawyers in specific areas of law and jurisdictions, allowing him to organize a team to meet any legal challenge.
